How I Write Historical Fiction, Reviewed by Katherine Spada Basto

As an author of historical fiction, this book was just ok. If you are interested in the Byzantine Period that Richard Blake writes about, you may find this helpful. Many how-to and helpful books on writing historical fiction are more general, more generic and specifically more helpful. Frankly, the author seems to toot his horn and goes into how his books were created, sold and what happened with his life as an author in this specific genre. Therefore, rather than being helpful it gets boring. And somewhat redundant. It’s great to hear about an author’s successes but it really distracted from the actual help part.

Richard Blake replies on Amazon:

On the other hand, I did go out of my way to explain that this is not a “how-to” book. Bearing in mind the explicit wording of its product description, you can hardly say the book was other than as described. If you want to contact me directly, I will see that you are sent a complimentary pdf of one of my novels. It may not be much, but it’s the best I can do. Thanks for reading and reviewing the book. You know yourself that all reviews are worth having.

NB – The Book is also a free download. Judge for yourself.
