The book starts at a good pace, describing the squalor and horror of Roman era gaols continuing in a style suited to the best of fantasy fiction and criminal writers.
Over what the cover says I would be giving spoilers if I were to disclose more of the plot, but it carries on with the twists and turns of the best with characters varying from the cynical manipulators to the wide eyed naive.
Being one of the shorter of Mr Blake’s novels it is a good introduction to his works.
